About our Online YOga teacher training
Our online courses are suitable for a variety of students including keen yogis, existing yoga teachers, personal trainers, midwives, doulas, NCT educators and health practitioners. Our courses offer a rigorous grounding in pregnancy, postnatal or fertility yoga for those students who are unable to attend a face-to-face course or workshop due to family or work commitments. Perhaps you've just had a baby, or you work full time in another career and have an interest in teaching yoga? Train with us and you will receive a thorough grounding in the area you choose. You will complete the course with all the knowledge you need to start teaching right away in addition to a comprehensive set of marketing materials, handouts and lesson plans. Wherever you are in the world, you will receive support and guidance and gaining your new skill set.
Prerequisites: self-motivation, discipline and time
Our online teacher training courses allow you to define your own schedule and learn at your own pace, wherever and whenever convenient. We have enrolled students from all over the world. To get the best from distance learning, you need:
- Self-motivation – to set and maintain high standards, and to complete coursework at a pace that suits you.
- Discipline – you must be capable of managing your own time, and have the self-discipline to study, research and complete your assignments.
- Time – for study and research, you need to devote enough time to study to pass and get a good grade. As a rough guide, most students can complete the pregnancy yoga teacher training course within 9 months by studying around 5 hours per week, although it is certainly possible to finish the course more quickly than this!
- To ask for tutor guidance if needed – if you need help, it’s always available wherever you are in the world via email, FaceTime or Skype.
Please be aware that studying online is definitely not the soft option. In many ways distance learning is more demanding than attending teacher training workshops and intensives, as the onus is always on you to deliver
Assignments – what to expect
Each module has an assignment consisting of 3 or 4 questions, depending on the course. These include the creation of relevant, useful course handouts, questionnaires, promotional fliers, lesson plans, course plans and some essay questions. None of the questions are multiple choice; all questions require understanding of the course text, reference to additional recommended texts, plus your own experience, opinion and rationale. None of it is rocket science, but it does demand time, thought, planning, a little creativity and basic computer skills.
Submission of Assignments
Clear guidelines are given (e.g. format, min/max word guide). Successful completion of the previous assignment is required before continuing to the next module. Assignments that ignore the guidelines or are below standard are returned ungraded, with clear feedback as to why it needs to be resubmitted.
Some questions require the creation of handouts for students. On completion of the course you will have a comprehensive portfolio of teaching aids for your classes. This preparation will leave you free to focus on your teaching, and encourage your students to develop their own practice, with clear, accurate instructions to refer to. Since these handouts are for your students, they need to be well presented (no spelling/grammar mistakes), visually appealing and accurate. Use of colour, logos and/or pictures is necessary.
